What does Rock Chalk mean?

Posted on: April 8, 2008 10:14 am

Rock: the basketball.  As in, give us the damn rock going down the stretch, and watch us take this game away from the Tigers!!

Chalk: just like they would have drawn up their comeback scenario.  Memphis starts to play cautious after the last TV timeout, playing the clock game (cause they can't shoot free throws) and not getting good shots off.  Kansas gets Dorsey to commit a terrible, overtime-changing fifth foul.  Only Memphis is a team you purposefully foul, ONLY DOWN 4 WITH 1:40 TO GO!!!  Roberts made those two, but the Tigers missed 4 more consecutively.  And they get the rebound after two Roberts misses, and STILL can't seal the deal.

Then, Memphis doesn't foul up 3 with 10.8 left (but I'm not second guessing here.  Memphis plays great perimeter defense and made Chalmers hit a helluva shot.  I can't fault that strategy).  The magic shot goes in, Kansas pounds inside in OT.  Then Calipari commits the error that I have a beef with: he fouls when Kansas gets the ball up 3 (one possession game) with 56 ticks.  Puts Kansas up 5 (2 possessions).  9 times out of 10, if I can stop you and keep it a one possession game with some decent time left, I won't foul.  Memphis did and they were done.

Jayhawk means Champs.  Simple as that.
